Minutes from WAP's last members meeting

Here are the minutes of our last full membership meeting.

There are a couple of things for you to consider:

1. Would you like to be trained or have any of your team trained to be Arts Awards Advisors? Do have a look at the notes from Ruth Jone's presentation. WAP will be able to organised subsidised training if we have a cohort of 8 or more. Let me know by commenting on the blog or email if you would like to consider this.
2. Would you like me to organise another opportunity to meet with Simon Jeffery to look in more detail at the process of tendering? Again please do leave a comment if you do.
3. Please do share any plans or thoughts you have around the Cultural Olympiad/ Torch relay. I am meeting with Team Wiltshire on Thursday and would be happy to pass on anything from WAP members.

Thanks all

Joint Strategic Assessment

At our last full members meeting the Joint Strategic Assessment developed and published by Wiltshire Council was mentioned as a possible useful read. Here it is do have a look if you fancy.

WAP's priorities for 2011 - 2013

I have recently submitted an Grants For The Arts application to ACE to provide us with the resource to deliver the priorities that we have identified though our consultations. The application is an 8000 word document but I have wordled it for you (If you haven't discovered wordle yet do google it, you paste in words from a document and it shows you the words used most often, the larger the font the more it appears in your document). I think this 'wordle' gives a really good representation of what WAP plans to achieve during 2012 and 13.

If anyone would like to see the full application please do let me know and I'll forward it to you.

Action For Wiltshire

At our full membership meeting it was suggested that it might be useful for me to share the PDF from Action For Wiltshire with you, those of us who were there had a quick glance at a copy at the meeting. here it is:

And here is a link to the Action For Wiltshire Website http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/council/wiltshirefamilyofpartnershipsworkingtogether/actionforwiltshire.htm

Trowbridge Community Area Plan

Here is Trowbridge Community Area Plan which I thought might be of interest to you. It highlights the needs for Trowbridge as identified by its community. There is a section on culture that might be of particular interest but actually it highlights areas throughout it's theme groups where the arts might make an impact.

I'm aware that all of the Local Area Partnership's are looking to, or in the process of creating their own Community Area Plans, so do get involved.

What do you think of this One Stop Culture Shop?

One of the things we are wanting to explore for Wiltshire is a 'one stop' website where tourists and residents alike can see what Wiltshire has to offer. Dorset have just launched a website to do just that. What do you think of it? Is this something you would see value in Wiltshire having?

Have a look!

Preparing successful bids

This might be worth thinking about!

Is your organisation bidding for statutory contracts and grants? How can you make sure that your bid is successful and that you have the necessary skills to make your bid stand out?

Excellent written communication skills are paramount for bidding staff, but how often do your bidding staff work on developing these skills?

If you would like to find out more about how to ensure that your bids are successful, we would be delighted if you or a member of your team would like to join 18 colleagues from across the sector at one of Action Planning's intensive two-day masterclasses on Preparing successful bids for statutory contracts and grants. The next session of the workshop will be held on the 22 & 23 August 2011 in London. This will be followed by a session in Newcastle on the 5 & 6 October 2011.

This intensive and practical workshop is Britain's leading training course on statutory fundraising for charities and social enterprises. It has already run more than 100 times and been widely adopted as a core training module by the leading service-delivering charities.

The course will help you respond to the increased competition for statutory contracts which has resulted from the cuts and to understand and prepare for the new opportunities created by the Big Society agenda by investing now in the bid-writing capacity of your team.

The workshop is limited to 18 participants and presented by our Statutory Funding Consultant, Derek Smith, formerly Services Director of RNID. It enables participants to achieve high scoring bids by understanding evaluation systems and completing high quality applications. It explains how to cut the time involved in bid writing by preparing information in standard formats and includes resources, including our 'Bid Preparation Tool Kit', for your ongoing use.

The training costs £385 including VAT, lunch both days and all course materials. You can book places and request an invoice by clicking here or by completing the form on the brochure. If you have several people who need these skills, we may be able to run the course for you in-house. Please email me directly if you want to explore this.
