CEW was set up last year as a result of a merger between TheatreWorks and Wiltshire Dancing and is committed to the development of theatre and dance in Wiltshire. CEW is based at Salisbury Arts Centre and representatives from Salisbury Arts Centre, Salisbury Playhouse and Pavilion Dance South West sit on its governance group.
Its new project, CEW 2: Producing Potential, will start towards the end of this year and has four key objectives:
1. To further develop networking opportunities for theatre and dance artists and practitioners
2. To provide direct skills development support, resulting in quality performances and projects being created and finding markets
3. To directly invest in and produce two dance or theatre projects Made in Wiltshire
4. To broaden the marketplace for dance and theatre work created locally
Peter Tyas, Head of Arts and Archives at Wiltshire Council said:
"CEW2: Producing Potential offers something unique and very exciting for Wiltshire. The project will support the creation of new theatre and dance work within the county and it will provide support for performing arts companies and individual artists to collaborate, develop and be more ambitious."
Deryck Newland, Artistic Director of Pavilion Dance South West, who sits on CEW’s governance group, said:
"We are delighted that Arts Council England, in partnership with Wiltshire Council, has recognised the potential CEW has to make a real difference to Wiltshire’s creative community."
CEW is currently recruiting its staff team to deliver this project, which will include a Business and Development Producer, a Theatre Creative Producer and a Dance Creative Producer. See the CEW website www.danceandtheatrewiltshire.net for details.
