I had a great afternoon with everyone on the Community Arts Training course. It really brings home how many talented, professional individual practitioners there are out there. All of the CAT graduates have been given membership to WAP until April 2012 so I hope we'll get to benefit from their input at our next meetings.

Olympic Torch having an over night stay in Salisbury
Have you seen that the Olympic Torch route has been announced? It will be spending the night in Salisbury on July 11, you can see the interactive map here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13391986 My understanding is that there will be quite large scale events happening during the overnight stops! Superfast broadband in Wiltshire
Wiltshire Assembly has asked us to feed into the work that Wiltshire Council is doing to develop Superfast broadband throughout Wiltshire. Some of you did share thoughts on how this might effect your own ways of working and possibly increase your reach and profitability which I have passed onto Peter Tyas, Head of Arts. Wiltshire Council is spearheading a drive to bring superfast broadband to communities across the county.
The council is investing £16 million so more residents and businesses can have access to super fast broadband. The council is also bidding for a government grant and additional funding from the telecoms industry with the hope of generating more than £30m towards getting Wiltshire ahead in the digital revolution.
The council has set a target of giving 85% of premises access to super fast broadband by 2015 – and that target could possibly rise to 95%.
Supporting superfast broadband access is only one part of the council’s wider plans to get the county online. Being online is becoming increasingly important and the council will invest in educating people and small businesses to help them get the most out of the internet. The council will also help encourage more elderly people to use online services which will help give them greater independence. It will increase the number of its services that can be accessed online and look to develop its website so more people can pay bills and make enquiries online – increasing access and saving taxpayers’ money.
To make sure the council targets its investment to the areas which need it most, people across the county are being asked to fill in a survey. All the information gathered will help the council as it works with the telecoms industry to improve access to broadband across Wiltshire.
Separate surveys aimed at businesses and residents are available online at:

National Family Week
National Family Week aims to celebrate family life in the UK and connect millions of families with the organisations, charities, good causes and services that support them. For the last two years, families have enjoyed thousands of events, competitions, special offers and much more as part of the UK’s biggest celebration of family life.
National Family Week 2011 will take place from Monday 30 May – Sunday 5 June and aims to be bigger and better, engaging with thousands of families nationwide.
Get involved …
Why not be a part of National Family Week 2011 and organise family-friendly events and activities for your local community? Your organisation can hold a Family Week event to showcase and publicise what you have to offer families, and can also double up as a fundraising exercise for one of your projects.

A fabulous opportunity for artists experienced in working with young people
Desperately seeking experienced artist
English Heritage and Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership are seeking to deliver an innovative programme of creative activities which develop informal learning activities for young people aged 13-19 in Wiltshire. The focus of this learning is the Stonehenge World Heritage Site (within or about).
The project is set into two parts.
The first stage:
The artist will work with a small group of young people to design/shape 2 activities that they feel will engage other young people in the historic environment of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site.
Second Stage:
The completed ‘package’ will be delivered by the artist and young people to volunteers, to train them and others to deliver the activities for other young people accessing or taking part in Stonehenge World Heritage.
Requirements:
A minimum of 3 years experience of working with young people from 13 - 19 years of age. Valid CRB checked and public liability clearance as well as car driver.
A proven track record of working with and engaging children and young people in the arts - with a clear directive of Every Child Matters and Wiltshire Council’s Youth Work Curriculum Framework.
Good working knowledge of risk assessments, project planning and evaluation.
Breakdown of costings:
5 days at £200 per day.
To include meetings, planning, shaping, delivering and evaluating sessions for young people. The artist will be required to work alongside young people/evaluating and compiling materials.
3 days at £200 per day
To include meetings, planning, shaping, delivering and evaluating sessions for training of volunteers. The artist will be required to work alongside English Heritage, Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership and young people compiling/evaluating this piece of work.

Commissioned as part of Salisbury’s celebrations of the art of John Constable. This outdoor spectacle in trademark Hoodwink visual style, combines comedy, music, choirs, runaway sheep from the water meadow, birthday cake…..and more!
Hoodwink needs volunteers.
At 10.30am on Saturday 11th June Hoodwink would like to fill the street corners of Salisbury with as many ‘Constables’ as possible.
A flash mob of ‘Constables’, drawing, painting their view of Salisbury Cathedral.
We need as many ‘Constables’ as possible to create an impact.
Male or female the costume is the same.
You don’t need to be an experienced artist or performer but up for fun and a memorable experience as part of a professional show.

Trowbridge Community Area Plan Consultation
The Trowbridge Area theme groups including BA14 Culture have produced a Community Area Plan which has been developed with the community to highlight strengths and needs for this community area which includes the Parishes of Hilperton, North Bradley, Southwick, Trowbridge and West Ashton.
It is quite a lengthy document but might be useful for you to look over the introduction from Colin Kay, chair of Trowbridge Community Area Futures and head of Clarendon College, and pages 16 and 17 which highlight the Cultural issues.

The plan aims to make a wider range of volunteering opportunities available to people of all ages, backgrounds and interests, throughout the county. It was developed by a group of people who support volunteering drawn from the public sector, businesses, charities and communities.
The volunteering plan ad all other Wiltshire Council consultations can be viewed through the council’s consultation website http://consult.wiltshire.gov.uk/portal , by contacting the volunteer centre on 0845 034 5250, or emailing the council’s volunteering development manager, Karen Scott.

Up to £1000 available to support arts projects
The Wiltshire Council Arts Project Grant Scheme is now open to all voluntary and community organisations (not individuals) wishing to provide arts projects in Wiltshire. Details can be downloaded at:
Arts projects can cover a wide range of creative opportunities, including visual arts, crafts, media and digital forms, literature and performing arts. The scheme aims to support the vibrant Wiltshire arts sector.
The total 2011/12 budget available is £6,000 and will be allocated in 2 rounds. We aim to allocate 50% of the budget in each round of applications .
The first deadline is Friday 6 May 2011 for projects taking place between July 2011 and June 2012
and the autumn deadline will be Friday 30 September 2011 for projects taking place between November 2011 and October 2012.

Peter Tyas, Wiltshire Council's Head Of Arts has asked me to invite you to suggest questions he could ask Phil Gibby, Director of Arts Council England South West, when he meets with him on the 15th April.
Arts Council England recognise local authorities as one of their most important strategic partners. To make sure that this relationship works effectively there is a regular meeting between local authority lead officers and their Arts Council regional office. This means that on a roughly quarterly basis Wiltshire Council sends a representative down to Exeter to meet with senior officers at the Arts Council. The next meeting is on the 15th of April and if you have any questions that you would like raising within that forum please either place your comment below or e-mail Peter directly peter.tyas@wiltshire.gov.uk
