The Little Mermaid Aquashow!

I can't wait for this!

Louise Rennie of Curious Company has brought together creative partners including dancers and theatre makers as well as film and music makers to collaborate on a compelling production of unique and emotive dance theatre combined with athletic and beautifully crafted synchronized swimming to create THE LITTLE MERMAID AQUASHOW!

The story explores the search for love and belonging; it highlights the consuming power of desire beyond reach, of wanting to be something you are not and the consequences of pursuing that desire. It is also a magical, romantic dream full of imaginative descriptions of an underwater world, princes and princesses, witches and mermaids and unrequited love. The narrative, settings and characters are bursting with colour and drama.

This show presents the ideal manifestation of the Cultural Olympiad taking a show combing sport and the arts to towns that might not have a formal theatre space and to audiences who might not want to go to one.

The tour will include; Marlborough, Devizes and Salisbury through June 2012. Details of time and dates to follow, watch this space.

Trowbridge Arts

 Trowbridge Arts application wordled!

Wordle: Trowbridge Arts

I have wordled a draft funding application WAP have supported to provide professional arts in Trowbridge since the closure of The Arc.

Wordle's work by taking the words that appear most in a document appear largest in the wordle and those which appear least appear smallest. I think this gives an interesting reflection of the main focus of a big document.

If anyone would like to see the whole 7000 words worth you are more than welcome.

Case studies needed for Conference

WAP is working to deliver a conference in October that will look at how we can Strive, Survive and Thrive in the arts.

One of the elements of the day will be demonstrating where the arts has impacted on 'social outcomes'. Where arts has been used to work within health, social care, with disengaged young people, isolated older people for example.

It would be great if we could have a home grown example of successful work in this area. If you or any colleagues have worked in this way and would be willing to talk about it, or have a stand or demonstrate it at the conference please get in touch.

Thank you

Community Engagement Workshops

Two FREE workshop sessions on Engaging Communities that Community First will be running in March and April.

We’re all being asked to get more involved in local planning and decision making. How can you ensure that everyone has a real chance to take part and to get their voice heard?

Engaging Communities covers some of the principles of community engagement and consultation, some practicalities about running consultation events, plus lots of ideas for some fun methods that could be used to widen participation from people in the community.

So if you are a parish or town council, community led planning or other local group seeking to consult and involve your community, this workshop will give you the practical tools to design high quality consultation activities that engage and involve all sections of your community.

As places are limited it is essential to book well in advance so please complete and return the attached booking form. The deadlines for booking are 2 March (for the 15 March session), and 23 March (for 26 April session).

If you have any questions about the sessions please do contact me to discuss how we can help.
